Concept
Deal, company, and person
A company and a person are records you reuse. A deal is the pursuit of an opportunity.
A company is an organisation in the firm’s book. Northwind Health is a company. The same company can sit on a deal, in investor relations, and later on a portfolio holding. You do not create a second company for each of those.
A person is an individual. Alex Chen can be a founder on a company, a contact on an investor, or both. The person record is shared. The role is the relationship.
A deal is the pursuit. It has a stage, a company, and the work around the opportunity: notes, tasks, documents, and the path to investment committee. Closing or rejecting the deal does not delete the company.
Create the company first when it is not already in the book. Then open a deal on it. See Add a company and Open a deal.
